CERRO CASTOR SKI
CENTRE - USHUAIA, TIERRA DEL FUEGO, ARGENTINA
Its extensive runs, the quality of its services and the sheer beauty of
its scenery make Cerro Castor the perfect mountain setting for an adventure
in the uttermost part of the earth. This ski resort lies only 27 km (17
miles) from Ushuaia, the world's southernmost city, on the most austral
portion of the Andes. The natural environment invites visitors to fully
enjoy its incredibly fascinating geography.
The climate is perfect to practice winter sports; the snow is the best
and the season is the longest in South America.
The ultramodern lift facilities make it possible for skiers to be efficiently
distributed about the pistes, which cover an area of 400 hectares.
Fifteen ski runs suitable for sportspeople of all ability levels -one
of them certified for competition by the I.S.F.-extend over 17 km and
are prepared to let you indulge in nature unreservedly. The off-piste
runs are extremely high quality and varied, and ideal if you expect to
find virgin snow or extreme skiing and snowboarding.
SKI AND SNOWBOARDING
SCHOOL The Escuela de Esquí del Cerro Castor has a team of
20 expert instructor and is open during the whole season. It also operates
a school for children from 4 to 14 years of age offering daily 6-hour
activity program and daycare services at the base of the mountain.
LIFTS
There are 5 lifts in the complex, which can carry 5,000 skiers per hour.
GROOMING Winch cats are used to pack down
and flatten the trails and thus keep them in perfect condition.
