FISHING IN HILLS
AND STREAMS - ARGENTINA
The stream of the Córdoba hills
(West) and Mendoza mountains (Los Andes) increasingly beckon more fishermen
looking for salmonids outside Patagonia.
GETTING
THERE
In order to get to Mendoza's fishing grounds anglers take flights from
Buenos Aires to the capital city of that province or to San Rafael in
the south. Córdoba's operating base is in its capital city. Buses
go to the towns closest to fishing centers such as Malargüe (Mendoza)
or Santa Rosa de Calamuchita (Córdoba)
WEATHER
Temperatures are very low from May to September, and the fishing season
is closed. In summer, the weather is nice, but warm clothes are recommended.
SPECIES
AND METHODS
The finest and most outstanding fishing
is that for trout in Mendoza rivers and small Córdoba streams.
Landlocked salmon have been planted in watercourses such as the Grande
river (Córdoba). Fly-fishing is almost the only method used. The
silver side is caught float fishing in the dams.
SEASON
Season Runs between the months of November and April.
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
Each province determines the places
qualified for fishing and permit costs.
LODGING
What local tourist agents are most
likely to offer are cabins and bungalows. New companies focused on needs
of anglers are being set up.
