FISHING IN THE
RIVER NETWORK - ARGENTINA
The Argentine river network area
consists of the River Plate and the Dulce river basins, and is outstanding
for its abundant and high-quality fish, such as the dorado and the spotted
sorubim, among others.
GETTING
THERE
To visit Termas de Río Hondo the
airports of Tucumán or Santiago del Estero are used. As to the
fisheries located between Ituzaingó and Bella Vista, they can be
reached through the airports of Posadas, Corrientes or Resistencia. Cities
such as Concordia, Goya or Reconquista operate with smaller aircraft.
WEATHER
The weather is warm in all the region,
with very hot days in the summer. In this season, fishing is done very
early in the morning and at dusk. During the rest of the year fishing
usually runs between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. In summer , there are usually heavy
but short rainfalls, but they don't disturb the sport fishing.
LODGING
The range goes from camping with
very few services to lodges with international standard services, such
as those in Esquina and Paso de la Patria (Corrientes).
SPECIES
AND METHODS
In the whole Paraná and Dulce
basing lure-fishing for dorado and and spotted sorubim is outstanding.
In the Upper Paraná and Río Hondo dam trolling is practiced.
In this dam and in clear-water rivers and streams spinning and fly-fishing
are used. The giant pacu takes live baits and lures. It can weigh up to
fifteen kilos in the Paraná. The boga is a real fighter and is
difficult to hooks due to its fleshy mouth. On mild to warm days it is
possible to fish the voracious trahira in Cordoba's dams, and ponds and
marshlands of the Paraná and Uruguay rivers.
SEASON
In the River Plate basin there is
a fully closed season that generally lasts from November to January. Outside
this period, fishing is usually very good all year round, but it is particularly
dependant on river conditions (height, temperature and water pollution,
etc.).
LEGAL
REQUIREMENTS
Each Argentine province issues fishing
permits with particular features.
