FISHING IN SEA
SECTOR - ARGENTINA
GETTING
THERE
Some of the southernmost sharks in
the world are caught in Argentina, weighing over one hundred kilos. Of
recent popularity, fly and lure fishing is being practiced from Pinamar
to Ushuaia.
Bahía Blanca,
San Antonio Oeste, Necochea and Mar del Plata have their own airport.
To get to the superb area of San Blas - one of the best shark fishing
places together with Bahía Blanca - it is necessary to go by airplane
to Viedma or Bahía Blanca and rent a car to continue travelling
for one hundred kilometers along paved and gravel roads. Puerto Madryn
has an airfield but most of the flight arrive in Trelew, about 70 kilometers
away.
WEATHER
Winds are a feature
of all the Argentine sea coast. Temperatures range from cool to cold,
except for the summer. Warm clothing is a must for every tourist.
LODGING
Large
cities, such as Mar del Plata, Necochea or Puerto Madryn, offer excellent
lodging. If fishing the islands, there are lodges in Bahía Blanca
and San Blas, close to the shark fishing places.
SPECIES
AND METHODS
The shark is the
"star", although many prefer varied fishing from a boat with
live bait. Fly, spinning and trolling fishermen are discovering new horizons.
Brazilian sand perch, Argentina sea bass, blue fish, parona leatherjack,
yellowtail amberjack, small sharks and little tunny are caught from yachts
or specialized motorboats (guides). In winter, enduring the roughness
of the weather, Patagonian blenny are fished from Puerto Madryn southwards,
with flies and lures from the shore. With small spinners and flies silver
slides are also caught.
SEASON
Large bacota sharks
and bull shark weighing over 100 kilos or the Brazilian sand perch ranging
between 10 and 20 kilos. For fly-fishing the months of February to May
are the best.
LEGAL
REQUIREMENTS
The sea fishing
season is open all year round with no major restrictions.
