THE
"HOSTERÍA"
Perfectly situated, Estancia Alice is only 15 minutes from the "El
Calafate" town and near the "Glaciar Perito Moreno". There
you will find a warm and cozy home stead surrounded by a natural picturesque
rural area. The 16 rooms are equipped with private bathrooms in order
to make your stay more comfortable. All ensuite rooms look onto an incredible
and wonderful landscape: the lake "Lago Argentino" and "Los
Andes" mountain range. Our purpose is to offer our guests a friendly
atmosphere, a warm welcome and comfortable accommodation at our place.
Free shuttle service from Estancia Alice to "El Calafate" town.
A wonderful personal welcome awaits our guests at our restaurant with
delicious homemade jams, cookies, scones and bread and a hot tea or coffee.
The adventure starts at the antique sheep shearing shed where the walking
tour begins through trekking paths that lead to the lagoon "Laguna
de los Pájaros" and the lake "Lago Argentino". The
expedition of our nature reserve includes birdwatching of over 40 migrating
species which visit us from the beginning of Spring and which often nest
in the reserve by the lagoon. The tour guide continues with the ancient
Indian camping ground where archeologists from the University of La Plata
have been excavating and studying the culture of Indians who once dominated
the whole area. It is hard to imagine this trip without watching our Kelpie
dogs guiding the flock from their pastures to the shearing shed. There
you will see how sheep are shorn and how wool is balled up. The tour ends
with a delicious patagonic lamb barbecue, fresh salads, homemade desserts
and hot coffee at our cozy restaurant with a magnificent view over the
Lago Argentino and the Cordillera de Los Andes.
